Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum Takes an Innovative Approach to Recycling with B&M Waste

4 October 2018

From iconic locomotives to the world’s first modern computer, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester has always been at the forefront of innovation – and now they’re rolling out that approach with their waste strategy, partnering with Carbon Neutral B&M Waste Services.

In a year-long discussion over how to deliver the most tailored waste solution to such a complex organisation – with a busy café, shop and conference facilities to contend with as well as the day-to-day running of the building – Stephen Hoyle, General Maintenance Manager for the museum explained that it’s been much more of a partnership than a supplier / customer relationship;
What’s been great about working with B&M Waste has been the tailored support that they’ve offered to us as a museum. It’s been a real partnership where we’ve worked together for the past year to tailor a system that we think will work best for us. We’re even looking into other areas – such as how we can support them with their educational aims.”
Analysis and reporting is also a key element in the partnership with B&M Waste providing detailed environmental reports to the museum, highlighting key figures and demonstrable environmental impact such as the amount of carbon saved, the equivalent number of trees saved and the equivalent number of car miles saved.
Ian McKenzie, B&M Waste Account Manager for the museum, said “Working with the Science and Industry Museum has been fantastic. Their forward-thinking and innovative approach perfectly matches our own and they genuinely care about making a positive environmental impact – that’s where we can help!”
