Manager looks ahead to Saturday’s important encounter
Manager Micky Mellon says the expectations of his team will never waiver as he looks ahead to Saturday’s National League encounter against FC Halifax Town at the MBi Shay Stadium (3:00pm kick-off).
The boss says the full focus will be on getting an important victory, no matter what happens in other matches.
He said: “Regardless of anything going on around us, I expect my team to play well and try and pick up three points and that’s it.
“That’s the way we always approach things here, we’re a group that continually wants to improve and football club that is trying to improve all the time.
“All I can control is what we do, and that is the next training session and the next game.
“We’re really enjoying it, there’s a lot at stake so we’re just getting on with it.”
Asked about having two strikers over the 20-goal mark for the season, the manager says that historically it’s important to get those kind of tallies from the front men if you’re looking to have a successful campaign.
Pleased with the goal counts of both Andy Cook (26) and James Norwood (20), Mellon is equally pleased with the work rate of both players and believes this has gone a long way to their goalscoring success this term.
“To have goalscorers is massive for us. If you look through history, there has always been talismen and goalscorers in any successful team so we’re pleased that we’ve got lads here who can score goals and are doing really, really well for us.
“It’s not just scoring goals either, they are working very, very hard for the team and leading the line well.
“Once again, it shows that hard work will bring you success.”
