Pilkington FC 4-4 Tranmere Rovers

26 November 2023

An eight goal thriller was played out as the Tranmere Rovers Development team picked up a point away to Pilkington FC.

The hosts got the game underway, but it was Rovers who went close in the opening stages when Shaney Bond fired over.

Pilkington took the lead on 9 minutes with a close-range finish before Rovers struck back instantly when forward Phoebe Fogarty closed down and then rounded the keeper before cooly slotting home.

Both teams continued to exchange chances with Georgia Manifold standing firm in the Rovers goal.

Tranmere would lead for the first time in the match when Phoebe Fogarty rode several challenges before unleashing a low right footed drive into the net, but that lead would only last for a matter of minutes before Pilkington would level the scores.

As the half continued to ebb and flow Tranmere took the lead again when Shaney Bond worked well down the left and her cross come shot took a nick off a defender and found the far corner.

With the clock ticking towards halftime Tranmere got a fourth when Milly Chesters drove into the area on the right and found the corner with a neat finish before Pilkington reduced the deficit with a far post finish of their own after a ball in from the right just on the stroke of halftime.

Tranmere got the second half underway and faced an immediate setback when Pilkington levelled the scores with a finish inside the area.

The game in the second half became very stretched which resulted in a flurry of chances for both sides with Beattie stopping a Pilkington attack with a perfectly timed tackle down one end and Chesters troubling the Pilkington goal with a long range effort down the other.

Zoe Hughes stopped a certain Pilkington attack down the left and sparked an instant Rovers counter playing in Foy who was denied by a last-ditch block.

Tranmere pushed hard at the Pilkington goal with Bond, Foy and Fogarty going close before keeper Georgia Manifold stood firm when faced with one on one to deny Pilkington with the last chance of the game.

Up next for the Tranmere Rovers Development Team is MSB Woolton Women at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village on 3rd December in the League, 2pm Kick Off.
